Idemitsu Kosan awards Chiyoda FEED contract for SAF project at Tokuyama complex in Japan
Chiyoda Corp. announced Dec. 20 that it has been awarded the front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for installing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facilities at the Tokuyama complex in Shunan City, Japan, by Idemitsu Kosan Co. Ltd.
Idemitsu Kosan is aiming to establish a domestic supply chain to produce 500 million liters (132 million gallons) of SAF per year to achieve the initial goal of the Japanese government and the aviation industry to replace 10 percent of fuel consumption by Japanese airlines with SAF by 2030.
At this complex, Idemitsu Kosan has announced to produce 250 million liters (66 million gallons) of SAF per year via hydroprocessed esters and fatty acids (HEFA) technology after fiscal-year 2028 onward.
By utilizing the technical capabilities and experiences Chiyoda has mainly built up in the field of oil-and-gas plant engineering over 70 years, Chiyoda said it will proactively respond to ensure the implementation of SAF production facilities at the complex through the execution of the FEED work.
A feasibility study for the project at the Tokuyama complex in Shunan City was conducted last year.
As a comprehensive engineering company, Chiyoda said it is actively engaged in the development of biofuel production technology.
Chiyoda said it is engaged in biofuel EPC projects worldwide.
