Krekelberg joins EcoEngineers to lead climate-strategy practice
Updated: Dec 10
Clean-energy consulting, auditing and advisory firm EcoEngineers announced Dec. 5 the addition of Dan Krekelberg as climate-strategy director.
A climate-policy expert and sustainability consultant, Krekelberg brings more than 15 years of experience in sustainability reporting, climate-action planning, clean-energy deployment and greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions measurement and reduction.
At Eco, Krekelberg will provide strategic-advisory services in climate-resilience planning to corporate and municipal clients.
These services will cover both the assessment and mitigation of carbon footprints and improving resiliency and responsiveness to climate-related risks.
He will lead the development of climate-action plans, guide clients on their ability to adapt to changing weather patterns, and oversee the development of strategic initiatives, consensus-based standards and expert-informed guidance within emerging areas of climate science for mitigation and adaptation.
“We need to discuss climate adaptation with a sense of urgency,” said Eco CEO Shashi Menon. “In Europe this is already the law—cities need to be prepared for severe-weather events and put in place protective measures. Dan’s focus on adaptation and resiliency expands our ability to advise clients on their sustainability strategies. Dan brings extensive experience designing and implementing protocols, standards and tools for climate risk assessment and carbon accounting.”
Before joining Eco, Krekelberg provided advisory services to nonprofits, public agencies and companies in preparing climate plans and developing clean-energy projects.
“EcoEngineers is such a respected authority in our industry,” Krekelberg said. “Having previously worked alongside their teams, I’m excited for this opportunity to join Eco and help lead energy conservation, GHG assessment and mitigation, and adaptation efforts for clients.”
Previously, Krekelberg founded Factor Climate Strategies where he provided advisory and guidance to organizations on GHG-emissions reporting, mitigation and standards.
He also served as the policy director for The Climate Registry, a climate and energy specialist for Ascent Environmental, and supported clean-energy transition planning on behalf of U.S. state and federal agencies.
Krekelberg has additionally served on technical committees for global-standards setting, including for an American National Standards Institute technical committee for GHG-verification/validation standards, International Organization for Standardization international working group for net-zero-aligned organizations, and integrated reporting council for International Financial Reporting Standards sustainability standards.
At the regional level, he has participated in climate-resilience coalitions for the Urban Land Institute and the Alliance of Regional Collaboratives for Climate Adaptation.
Krekelberg holds a master’s degree in urban management and development with a specialization in climate-change planning from Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands and an undergraduate degree in government from California State University, Sacramento.
