PT Pertamina Patra Niaga announced Aug. 21 that it has obtained certification from the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification System GmbH for the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation and the Renewable Energy Directive-EU.

The company said this marks an important step in providing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in Southeast Asia while strengthening its position as a pioneer in the aviation industry committed to reducing global carbon emissions.

Maya Kusmaya, the director of central marketing and commerce for PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, said the achievement is proof of the company’s dedication to supporting the transition to more environmentally friendly fuels.

“With this certification, Pertamina Patra Niaga becomes the first operator in Southeast Asia to market ISCC CORSIA-certified SAF,” Maya said. “This is a milestone in the regional energy industry, opening up opportunities for airlines in Indonesia and beyond to use fuels that significantly reduce their carbon footprint.”

The certificate handover was carried out in Jakarta, Indonesia, at the “Paving the Way to Net Zero: HVO & SAF” event by Pertamina, the theme of which was “Driving Change Through Renewable Fuels.”

Maya added that this certification allows customers to claim reduced carbon emissions from SAF products produced by Pertamina.

“With ISCC certification for SAF products as well as used cooking oil (UCO) and hydrotreated vegetable oil products from Pertamina, customers can now claim reduced carbon emissions resulting from the use of this fuel,” Maya said.

Aviation Fuel Terminal Ngurah Rai in Bali and Soekarno-Hatta Aviation Fuel Terminal & Hydrant Installation in Jakarta are the first locations to receive ISCC CORSIA and ISCC EU certification, according to PT Pertamina Patra Niaga.

The company added that AFT Ngurah Rai, as a strategic location, is prepared to support the Bali International Air Show 2024, which is expected to expand the use of Pertamina SAF in the international aviation market.

“Pertamina Patra Niaga is committed to continuing to lead innovation and sustainability, becoming the main partner of airlines in realizing a greener and more sustainable future,” Maya said.
