Repsol manufactures Spain’s 1st batch of waste-based SAF
Madrid-based energy company Repsol made the Spanish market’s first batch of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced from waste at its Petronor Industrial Complex in Bilbao, the company announced Aug. 25.
The batch consisted of 5,300 tons of fuel, the use of which Repsol says will avoid the emission of 300 tons of CO2—equivalent to 40 flights between centrally located Madrid and Bilbao in northern Spain.
This is the third production of SAF by Repsol in Spain following two other batches at its Puertollano and Tarragona refineries in 2020 and earlier this year.
Last year, Repsol announced plans to build a renewable diesel and SAF plant in Cartagena, Spain.
