UCO agreement signed for sustainable aviation fuel plant at Thai oil refinery
Bangchak Group and its biofuel subsidiary BBGI Public Company Ltd. have signed a memorandum of understanding with Thanachok Oil Light Company Ltd., an integrated vegetable oil business operating in Thailand for more than 40 years, for procurement of used cooking oil (UCO) as feedstock for a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production unit to be built at the Bangchak Refinery in Bangkok, Thailand.
According to Bangchak Group, the facility will have a maximum capacity to manufacture up to roughly 264,000 gallons (1 million liters) per day of UCO-based SAF. The SAF and coproducts produced at Bangchak Refinery will be sold domestically within Thailand as well as to international markets.
“Thailand’s yearly consumption of vegetable oil of around 900,000 liters (nearly 1.8 million pounds), which is constantly growing, presents an opportunity of creating value from used cooking oil to address the demand for SAF, which is rising constantly, as well as reducing GHG emissions in line with Bangchak Group’s 2050 Net Zero GHG Emissions target, and fully integrating the Bio-Circular-Green economic development model emphasized by the government in action,” Bangchak Group stated.
