US imports record volumes of renewable diesel in June, July
U.S. imports of renewable diesel broke back-to-back monthly records in June and July, according to new data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
The volumes of renewable diesel the U.S. imported in June and July were far greater than ever before.
Prior to June, the highest monthly volume of renewable diesel imported into the U.S. was in May 2023 at more than 48 million gallons.
This June, the U.S. imported more than 61 million gallons of renewable diesel.
In July, however, this spiked to nearly 67 million gallons.
Unsurprisingly, the vast majority of renewable diesel imported into the U.S. in June and July originated in Singapore.
U.S. imports of renewable diesel from Canada, however, arrived for the first time ever in June (11.4 million gallons) and rose in July (13.6 million gallons).
Meanwhile, U.S. imports of biodiesel in July fell to the lowest point of the year so far at just over 25 million gallons.
Biodiesel imports arrived in the U.S. in July from Canada (nearly 12 million gallons), Spain (6.2 million gallons), Italy (nearly 6 million gallons) and Brazil (1 million gallons).
Conversely, U.S. exports of biodiesel in July hit a high point for the year so far at 26.3 million gallons, still well below the April 2023 peak of close to 48 million gallons.
A vast majority of this, nearly 25 million gallons, was shipped north to Canada with much of the remainder going to Peru.
