Worley, ExxonMobil agree to EPC terms for low-carbon hydrogen project on US Gulf Coast
Worley announced Dec. 16 that it will provide reimbursable engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services to ExxonMobil for the enabling works, infrastructure and interconnects scope of ExxonMobil’s planned low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia facility on the U.S. Gulf Coast.
The facility is adjacent to ExxonMobil’s chemicals and refining complex in Baytown, Texas.
The contract is subject to final-investment decision (FID) and supportive government policy and necessary regulatory permits.
ExxonMobil’s planned facility is expected to be the world’s largest of its kind upon start-up.
The project will be scaled to produce up to 28.3 million cubic meters, or up to 1 billion cubic feet, per day of low-carbon hydrogen.
The hydrogen will have approximately 98 percent of its carbon dioxide (CO2) removed, according to Worley.
The complex will also produce nearly 1 million metric tons of low-carbon ammonia per year.
“We are delighted to continue our strategic global relationship with ExxonMobil in its execution of upcoming projects, particularly in delivering this EPC project on the U.S. Gulf Coast, which contributes significantly to strengthening Worley’s backlog,” said Worley CEO Chris Ashton.
Worley is a global professional-services company of energy, chemicals and resources experts headquartered in Australia.
